The Growers Federation on Tonga (GroFed) was created in 2009.

Enhance the opportunities for the Growers.

Vision

To be the leading private sector organization, enhancing prosperity and maximizing benefits for the growers of Tonga.

OBJECTIVES

1. Marketting

• To gain market access to Fiji, Samoa and PNG
• To double the existing market (volume and gross income)

2. Production

• To increase prodution land area by 7,000 acres within three years
• To increase production yield

3. Infrastructure

• Growers Federation to operate HTFA, Fumigation Chamber and New Zealand Bio. Security Packaging Facility
• To acquire facility for lactone and Vanilla Essence Extraction
• To acquire 3 tractors per district

4. Diversification of Export Commodities

• To promote additional export crops such as water melon, maize, tomatoes, eggplant, papaya, breadfruit, sweet potato and tamatama
• To focus on 4 new major export crops

5. Export Financing

• Easy access to Export Finance Facility
• For Government and banks to set up Export Finance Facility

6. Maximise Economic Return to Growers

• To promote and train the production of financially viable crops (gross margin analysis of produces)

7. Outer Islands Transport

• To achieve satisfactory cool chain to export
• More frequent and regular shipping and air services to the Niuas and Ha'apai

8. Research and Development

• To work together with Government on funded Research and Development

9. Risk Management

• To ensure that there is enough resources for the Federation's operations
