Hon. John Keys
the Prime Minister of New Zealand addressed the Tonga Private Sector
at the Fa’onelua Convention Centre on Tuesday 7th July at
4:30pm. This session was hosted by the
Tonga New Zealand Business Association.
Hon. John Keys
affirmed NZ’s support of the Tonga Private Sector. In his address he expressed the increase of New Zealand’s assistance to Tonga of 16
million each year. He explained that
this amount would later increase to 18 million with the focus of ensuring that
the government of Tonga
is well resourced for economic development.
New Zealand is
adamant on sustainable economic development and wants Tonga like the
rest of the Pacific to grow and flourish.
Following his address the representatives
of the Private Sector were given an opportunity to present from their
respective sectors.
The
Private Sectors were asked to speak on the following topics;
i)
Successes and challenges of your sector
ii)
Are you feeling the global recession?
iii)
Relationships (if any) with NZ or NZ businesses.
