Work with TBEC

The core function of the Tonga Business Enterprise Centre (TBEC) is to provide advisory services to Tongan businesses to assist in their growth and professional development.

 The initial phase in this Advisory Service is to meet with businesses and conduct an assessment of the business model, identifying the key issues / concerns facing the business, in consultation with the operator.

 Following this initial assessment, the TBEC team (the adviser working with the TBEC manager and other TBEC team members) would review / discuss the assessment and identify what opportunities may exist to assist the business to develop further and address the issues facing it.

In some cases, the issues presented by the operators may not be the only nor primary problem affecting the business. As such the assessment phase is critical in getting an accurate picture of the entire business. In other cases there may not be issues which need addressing, but rather a market opportunity which the operator cannot achieve without further technical assistance.

The business advisers would conduct an assessment, and then work with the TBEC team to identify strengths and weaknesses in the trading, operations or business model of the business. Alternatively or simultaneously, the assessment would also focus toward identifying opportunities available to the business. Following this, TBEC would identify a course of action by which it could assist the business. This may include additional input from the advisers, TBEC personnel, or one of the other assistance activities available to TBEC.

TBEC expects that up to 3 days work would provide sufficient time to complete an assessment and to develop the initial strategies and actions. Ongoing inputs and support would be based on this initial work. In some cases one day may be sufficient.

TBEC would work with the pool of potential advisers to build their capacity to conduct assessments and then work with the advisers to develop support strategies for the businesses they have worked with.

TBEC would promote its advisory service and direct the most appropriate resource to any requesting business. The input provided by advisors would be paid a daily fee and any expenses agreed in advance.
